Endometriosis supplements
Endometriosis takes an average of eight years to diagnose in the UK. Supplements are not going to close that gap, but a few may take the edge off while you push for proper care.
The context.
Endometriosis is tissue similar to the womb lining growing elsewhere, and the pain it causes is inflammatory as well as mechanical. That is the basis for the interest in anti-inflammatory nutrients, and it is a reasonable line of thinking rather than a marketing invention.
The evidence is thin. Omega-3 has some small-trial support for period pain generally, and a plausible mechanism through prostaglandin production. Magnesium may ease cramping. Vitamin D is often low and is worth correcting on general grounds.
What we will not do is imply that any of this shrinks lesions or alters disease progression. It does not.

What to look for.
- A real EPA and DHA total
- Not the total oil weight. Many cheap fish oils need five capsules to reach what a good one delivers in one.
- Magnesium you will actually tolerate
- Glycinate if oxide has previously upset your stomach.
- Third-party purity testing on fish oils
- Heavy metals and oxidation both matter, and rancid oil is worse than none.
What to ignore.
- Anti-inflammatory 'protocols' sold as bundles
- Multi-product protocols marketed for endometriosis are expensive and unsupported by trial evidence.
- Claims about shrinking lesions
- Nothing sold over the counter does this.
The ingredients, one by one.
Omega-3
Worth taking if you rarely eat oily fish, and genuinely important in pregnancy. Not a mood treatment on its own.
Magnesium glycinate
Genuinely useful if you are low in magnesium or sleeping badly. Not a sedative, and not a cure for anxiety.
Vitamin D and K2
Vitamin D is a genuine UK public health recommendation. K2 is reasonable, optional and oversold.
When a supplement is not the answer
Pain that stops you working, sex that hurts, bleeding you cannot manage, or difficulty conceiving all need a gynaecology route rather than a supplement shelf. Diagnostic delay in endometriosis is the central problem in this condition, and the most useful thing you can do is get properly assessed and keep a symptom diary to support that conversation.
Speak to a women's health clinicianCommon questions.
Do supplements help endometriosis pain?
Some may take the edge off. Omega-3 has limited evidence for period pain and magnesium may ease cramping. Neither treats the disease.
Does an anti-inflammatory diet help endometriosis?
Some women report improvement, and the mechanism is plausible, but the trial evidence is weak. It is reasonable to try alongside medical treatment, not instead of it.
Can supplements shrink endometriosis?
No. Nothing available over the counter has been shown to affect lesions.
