The market right now
NHS adult ADHD waiting lists run past five years in several trusts, and Right to Choose has pushed a large share of assessment volume into independent providers. That has created steady, predictable demand for DIVA-5 and ACE+ trained assessors who can write reports a GP will accept for shared care.
Most assessors in this market work on an associate basis, choosing their own weekly caseload. Rates are usually quoted per completed assessment rather than as a salary, so annualised figures depend on volume. The bands below assume a full-time equivalent caseload.
The strongest earners are clinicians who can hold both adult and paediatric pathways, or who add titration and supervision to assessment work. Report turnaround discipline matters more to referral volume than any other single factor.

Frequently asked questions
What qualifications do I need for ADHD assessment jobs in the UK?
You need current HCPC, GMC or NMC registration and postgraduate training in ADHD diagnostic assessment, most commonly DIVA-5 for adults or ACE+ and Conners for children. Two years of post-qualification neurodevelopmental experience is the usual minimum, plus an enhanced DBS.
How much do ADHD assessors earn in the UK?
Associate assessors are typically paid £350 to £600 per completed assessment. At a sustained full-time caseload that works out at roughly £65,000 to £95,000 a year, rising to around £110,000 for lead assessors who also supervise.
Can ADHD assessment work be done remotely?
Yes. Adult ADHD assessment is routinely delivered by video in line with NICE NG87, and most roles in this network are remote or hybrid. Paediatric pathways more often involve some in-person or school-based observation.
Do I need to prescribe to take an assessment role?
No. Assessment and titration are separate roles here. Non-prescribing psychologists and specialist nurses assess and report, and prescribing colleagues pick up titration where it is clinically indicated.
