    Common questions

Can a scan rule endometriosis out?
Not reliably. Ultrasound and MRI can show endometriomas and deep disease, but superficial disease is often invisible on imaging, which is why laparoscopy remains the definitive test when symptoms persist.
Why is it confused with IBS?
Bowel symptoms that flare cyclically look like IBS on a symptom list. The distinguishing feature is the link to the menstrual cycle, which is why tracking symptoms against your cycle is worth doing before an appointment.
