The market right now
Around 13 million women in the UK are perimenopausal or postmenopausal at any one time, and NHS menopause specialist clinics are concentrated in a handful of centres. That gap is why BMS-trained GPs, gynaecologists and specialist nurses can command well above standard sessional rates in independent practice.
Women's health work in this network is longitudinal rather than transactional. Clinicians hold a caseload through symptom mapping, HRT initiation and review, and lifestyle work across sleep, resistance training, nutrition and mental health - which is what patients say they cannot get anywhere else.
Pay reflects specialist accreditation. BMS Advanced Certificate holders, or clinicians with a substantial menopause caseload behind them, sit at the top of every band below.

Frequently asked questions
What qualifications do menopause specialist jobs require?
GMC, NMC or HCPC registration plus menopause-specific training. The British Menopause Society Principles and Practice course is the common entry point, and the BMS Advanced Certificate is what employers pay a premium for.
How much does a menopause specialist earn in the UK?
Specialist nurses and non-medical prescribers typically earn £55,000 to £75,000. GPs with an extended role in menopause earn £90,000 to £120,000, and accredited consultant leads reach £150,000.
Can I do menopause clinics alongside NHS work?
Yes, and most clinicians here do. Sessions are booked in blocks you set, so a single weekly clinic alongside a substantive NHS post is a normal pattern.
Is menopause care delivered remotely?
Largely yes. Initial consultations, HRT reviews and symptom follow-up work well by video, with in-person appointments arranged where examination or coil fitting is needed.
