    The market right now

Remote GP work has become one of the fastest-growing parts of UK general practice. Digital-first providers, insurers and specialist clinics now compete for the same pool of GPs, and the rate has settled between £90 and £150 an hour depending on appointment length and complexity.

The differentiator is no longer pay alone. GPs leaving partnership and salaried roles cite appointment length and continuity far more than money. A clinic offering 30 or 45 minute appointments recruits from a market that a 10 minute telephone triage service cannot reach.

Women's health is where that difference matters most. Menopause, PMDD, contraception complications and postnatal recovery all need a history that takes longer than a standard consultation allows, which is why specialist GP roles command the upper end of the private range.

Most of this work is sessional and outside IR35, which suits GPs holding an NHS commitment alongside. Two sessions a week is a realistic entry point and roughly half our GPs work that way.

    Frequently asked questions

How much do remote GP jobs pay in the UK?

Remote GP work in the UK typically pays £90 to £150 an hour in 2026. Digital triage services sit at the lower end, and specialist clinics with longer appointments at the upper end. Our published band is £110 to £140 an hour.

Are remote GP roles inside or outside IR35?

Most sessional remote GP work, including ours, is contracted outside IR35 because the GP controls their diary and clinical method. You should always ask for the status determination statement before signing.

Can I do remote GP work alongside an NHS post?

Yes, and most GPs in this market do. Sessions are booked in blocks, so a stable NHS commitment sits alongside two or three private sessions a week without conflict.

Do I need menopause training for women's health GP roles?

For menopause-specific roles, yes: the BMS Principles and Practice of Menopause Care course or an equivalent caseload. For general women's health GP roles, a genuine interest and willingness to train is enough.

What appointment lengths should I expect?

Ours are 45 minutes for first menopause consultations, 30 minutes for general women's health, and 20 minutes for follow-ups. Anything advertised at 10 minutes is a triage service, not a clinic.

Who covers indemnity for private GP work?

You hold your own medical indemnity. Reputable clinics contribute to the premium for the sessions you work with them, and we do.
