Why this role exists

Women reach us after years of being told their symptoms are stress, anxiety or simply age. A ten minute appointment cannot undo that. This role is the corrective: appointment lengths that allow a proper history, and follow-up already in the diary rather than requested and forgotten.

Who you would be looking after

Women aged 38 to 60 in perimenopause and menopause, including women with a history of PMDD, migraine with aura, or previous hormone-sensitive diagnoses.

A day in the diary

Four to six 45 minute first consultations, or a mixed list with 20 minute follow-ups
Structured review points at six and twelve weeks, booked at the first appointment
Thirty minutes of protected admin per session, paid, for letters and results
A weekly case discussion slot with the wider women's health team, optional

What the work involves

Hold first consultations of 45 minutes and follow-ups of 20 minutes, with a capped daily list
Prescribe and titrate HRT in line with NICE NG23 and BMS guidance, including testosterone where indicated
Work with our clinicians in nutrition, pelvic health and psychology on shared plans
Write back to the woman in plain English after every appointment, not only to her GP

What we ask for

GMC registration with a licence to practise and current appraisal
Menopause-specific training, for example the BMS Principles and Practice course, or equivalent experience
Comfort holding complex cases rather than referring them onward as a first move
Enhanced DBS, which we can arrange

Intake screening, scheduling and billing handled for you
Indemnity contribution and a CPD budget

What this pays, and why

NHS salaried GP work typically runs £75 to £95 an hour equivalent once pension and leave are counted. Private menopause sessions in London clinics sit around £120 to £160. Our band sits deliberately at the upper end of that range because the appointment lengths are longer and the follow-up is unpaid nowhere else.

Is this role inside or outside IR35?

Sessional GP work here is contracted outside IR35, on a per-session basis, with you controlling your own diary and clinical method. We will share the status determination statement before you sign.

Do I need to already be a menopause specialist?

No, but you need more than general interest. Completion of the BMS Principles and Practice of Menopause Care course, or a demonstrable caseload of menopause patients, is the practical threshold.

Who covers indemnity?

You hold your own medical indemnity and we contribute to the premium for the sessions you work with us. We will confirm the contribution amount at offer.
