Why this role exists
Women in perimenopause are prescribed antidepressants for what is often insomnia and health anxiety. CBT-I outperforms medication for menopausal sleep disruption and almost nobody can access it. This role fills that gap.
Who you would be looking after
Women with anxiety, low mood, insomnia and health anxiety, frequently entangled with hormonal change, postnatal adjustment or a recent diagnosis.
A day in the diary
- Five to ten 50 minute sessions a week, self-scheduled
- Structured protocols with session-by-session outcome measures
- Between-session tasks reviewed properly, not skipped
- Quarterly outcome review with the clinical lead
What the work involves
- Deliver structured CBT, including CBT-I, over defined treatment blocks
- Use outcome measures at every session and act on what they show
- Adapt protocols for hormonal and perinatal presentations
- Discharge with a relapse prevention plan the woman actually keeps
What we ask for
- BABCP accreditation, or eligibility with evidence
- Core profession or KSA route completed
- Competence in CBT-I, or willingness to train, which we fund

What this pays, and why
NHS Talking Therapies Band 7 equates to roughly £30 to £35 an hour. Private BABCP-accredited CBT runs £70 to £120 a session. Our band sits between, with referrals supplied.
