    Why this role exists

Contraception counselling is where a lot of women's later health is decided, and it is routinely done in eight minutes. Women change method, stop entirely, or carry side effects for years because nobody had time to talk it through.

Who you would be looking after

Women aged 16 to 55 seeking contraception, method changes, coil and implant fitting or removal, sexual health screening, and support with bleeding or pain on hormonal contraception.

    A day in the diary

    • Twelve to fourteen 20 minute appointments, with 40 minutes held for LARC fitting
    • A weekly complex contraception clinic with the medical team
    • Screening results and recall handled in protected admin time
    • Monthly safeguarding and clinical governance session

    What the work involves

    • Provide contraception counselling and initiation across all methods
    • Fit and remove coils and implants, if you hold the competencies, or train with us
    • Deliver sexual health screening, treatment and partner notification
    • Recognise and act on safeguarding concerns

    What we ask for

    • NMC registration
    • Sexual and reproductive health experience, FSRH qualifications welcome
    • Non-judgemental practice, genuinely
    • Enhanced DBS

    What you get

    • Funded FSRH LARC training if you do not already hold it
    • Pension, paid leave, CPD budget
    • Twenty minute appointments as standard

    What this pays, and why

NHS Band 6 runs £38,682 to £46,580 in 2026 and our band matches it deliberately, because we are recruiting from the NHS rather than trying to outbid it. The difference is appointment length and no lone-working evening clinics.

    How hiring works here

    1. You send your details. No agency screening call before anyone clinical has read them.
    2. A clinician from the relevant pathway calls you within five working days.
    3. A working conversation about how you would handle two real cases.
    4. Registration and references checked, then a start date that works around your existing commitments.

Questions clinicians ask about this role

Do I need LARC competencies to apply?

No. We fund FSRH Letters of Competence for the right candidate and mentor you through the supervised fittings.

Are there evening or weekend clinics?

One late clinic a week until 7pm, rotated across the team. No weekends.

    Is this a women-only service?

Yes, our clinical service is for women. Partner notification is handled through referral pathways.
