Why this role exists
Most women meet a nurse for eight minutes, once a year, for a smear. We wanted a nursing clinic where the same woman can raise heavy bleeding, contraception and sleep in one appointment and leave with a plan rather than three separate referrals.
Who you would be looking after
Women aged 20 to 65 attending for contraception, cervical screening, coil checks, HRT reviews and general women's health concerns.
A day in the diary
- A morning screening list with 20 minute appointments, capped at twelve
- An afternoon contraception and HRT review clinic
- Protected admin time each day for results, recalls and safety netting
- A weekly team huddle with the GPs and pelvic health physiotherapists
What the work involves
- Take cervical samples, counsel on results and manage recall
- Provide contraception advice, pill starts, injections and coil check support
- Run HRT review appointments and escalate to the GP where titration is needed
- Write plain English summaries to the woman after each appointment
What we ask for
- NMC registration with a current PIN
- Cervical sample taker training, or willingness to complete it with us
- Experience in primary care, sexual health or gynaecology
- Enhanced DBS, which we can arrange

What this pays, and why
NHS Agenda for Change band 6 currently runs roughly £37,000 to £45,000. Our band sits above that because the clinic is private, the list is capped and we expect you to hold complexity rather than pass it on.

Do I need to be a qualified smear taker already?
No. If you hold NMC registration and primary care experience we fund the sample taker course and mentor your first supervised clinics.
Is part-time possible?
Yes. Three days a week is the minimum and pay is pro rata against the same band.
How long are appointments?
Twenty minutes as standard, thirty for a first HRT review. The cap is protected and not quietly overbooked.
