    Why this role exists

Postnatal pelvic floor care in the UK is usually one leaflet and a six week check. Between a third and a half of women have some degree of prolapse after vaginal birth, and most are never examined for it. Longer appointments and booked reviews are the whole intervention.

Who you would be looking after

Women in the first two years after birth, and women with genitourinary symptoms of menopause including urgency, prolapse and painful sex.

    A day in the diary

    • Six to seven 45 minute assessments, or a mixed list with 30 minute reviews
    • Reviews at four and twelve weeks, booked at the first appointment
    • Direct internal referral where symptoms are hormonal
    • Monthly case discussion with the postnatal team

    What the work involves

    • Run 45 minute assessments including internal examination where consented and indicated
    • Write progressive rehabilitation programmes and review them at four and twelve weeks
    • Refer into our menopause and nutrition clinicians where symptoms are hormonal
    • Keep clear notes and outcome measures for every episode of care

    What we ask for

    • HCPC registration and postgraduate pelvic health training
    • Experience with postnatal and perimenopausal presentations
    • Comfort discussing sex, continence and body image without flinching

    What you get

    • Clinic space, equipment and a full admin service
    • Sessions from one day a week
    • Direct referral flow from our postnatal pathway

    What this pays, and why

NHS Band 6 to 7 physiotherapy equates to roughly £24 to £32 an hour. Private pelvic health sessions bill at £80 to £120, from which a self-employed physiotherapist pays room hire, admin and acquisition. Our rate is what is left once we cover those.

    How hiring works here

    1. You send your details. No agency screening call before anyone clinical has read them.
    2. A clinician from the relevant pathway calls you within five working days.
    3. A working conversation about how you would handle two real cases.
    4. Registration and references checked, then a start date that works around your existing commitments.

Questions clinicians ask about this role

Do I need my own equipment or room?

No. Clinic space, plinth, real-time ultrasound and admin are all provided.

    Is internal examination required?

It is core to the role, always with consent and always with the option for the woman to decline.

    Is there a minimum commitment?

One day a week, so it can sit alongside NHS or private work.
