Why this role exists

Midwives leave the profession over shift patterns and caseload, not over the work itself. This role keeps the clinical relationship and removes the rota that breaks people: daytime hours, a named caseload, and appointments that are not compressed.

Who you would be looking after

Women planning pregnancy, in pregnancy alongside NHS maternity care, and in the first two years after birth.

A day in the diary

Six to eight 45 minute appointments a day
A named caseload you carry through pregnancy and postnatally
Group antenatal education sessions, one a week
Protected time for notes, referrals and infant feeding follow-up

What the work involves

Provide antenatal education, birth preparation and debrief
Run postnatal recovery reviews at six weeks, three months and six months
Deliver infant feeding support, including complex feeding problems
Work alongside NHS maternity care rather than duplicating it, with clear communication both ways

What we ask for

NMC registration as a midwife
Three years or more post-registration experience
Confidence in the boundary between our service and NHS maternity care
Enhanced DBS

What this pays, and why

NHS Band 6 midwifery runs £38,682 to £46,580 in 2026, with unsocial hours enhancements on top. Our band matches the base and removes the enhancements, because there are no nights to enhance. For most midwives the total is close, with the difference being sleep.
