I am a Registered Nurse and Independent Prescriber with 17 years of experience across a range of healthcare settings, including specialist ADHD services, addictions and community healthcare. I specialise in adult ADHD assessment and treatment, with a particular interest in women's ADHD and complex presentations. Throughout my career, I have become increasingly aware of how easily people's difficulties can be overlooked, particularly when their experiences don't fit commonly recognised presentations. I have a particular interest in recognising ADHD in those who have spent years masking their difficulties or developing strategies to compensate for them. I recognise that someone can appear to be functioning successfully while experiencing significant difficulties behind the scenes. I believe it's important to understand not just what someone achieves, but the effort involved and the personal cost of maintaining that level of functioning. I also have a strong interest in the relationship between ADHD and hormonal health, including the impact of menstrual cycles, PMDD and perimenopause on symptoms and treatment. My background in addictions has given me experience working with people from diverse backgrounds, including those who have experienced stigma and barriers to accessing healthcare. This has shaped my approach to providing respectful, non-judgemental care, without assumptions about someone's identity or experiences. I believe an ADHD assessment should be an opportunity to feel heard, understood and respected, regardless of the diagnostic outcome.
