Why this role exists
Sleep is the symptom women rate as most damaging in perimenopause, and it is the one most often met with a prescription. CBT-I works better and lasts longer, and access to it is close to nonexistent outside specialist services.
Who you would be looking after
Women aged 40 to 58 with sleep onset or maintenance difficulty, night sweats disrupting sleep, and anxiety about sleep itself.
A day in the diary
- Six to ten 30 or 45 minute sessions, self-scheduled
- Structured six-week programmes with sleep diary review
- Coordination with the medical team where HRT or medication is involved
- Monthly supervision group
What the work involves
- Deliver structured CBT-I informed sleep programmes over six weeks
- Review sleep diaries and adjust the plan on data, not impression
- Address the anxiety loop that keeps insomnia going
- Escalate suspected sleep apnoea and restless legs to medical review

What this pays, and why
Sleep coaching privately runs £60 to £100 an hour with the practitioner finding their own clients. We supply the clients and pay on booked hours.
