Why this role exists
Half of our patients arrive anxious about needles after a bad experience. A rushed draw sets the tone for the whole appointment, so we slowed the slots down and hired for manner as much as technique.
Who you would be looking after
Women attending for hormone profiles, thyroid panels, iron studies, metabolic screening and fertility bloods.
A day in the diary
- Fifteen minute appointments, roughly twenty a day
- Cycle-timed hormone draws, which need accurate scheduling
- Sample handling, labelling and courier hand-off
- Quiet room use for needle-phobic patients, booked as double slots
What the work involves
- Take venous samples accurately and comfortably, first time where possible
- Manage cycle-timed testing so results are interpretable
- Handle, label and dispatch samples to laboratory standards
- Support needle-anxious women with a slower, explained process
What we ask for
- Phlebotomy certificate and at least a year of practice
- Care with labelling and sample integrity
- A calm, unhurried manner
- Enhanced DBS, which we can arrange
